The Chairman, Itire/Ikate Local Council Development Area, Hon. Hakeem Bamgbola, has been presented with an award as the Best Local Council Chairman on Infrastructure Development in Nigeria.
Confering the award on him at the council secretariat recently, the organisers, WHTLAN Consulting in conjunction with NTA 2 Channel 5, said six best council chairmen were picked from across the country and Bamgbola emerged as the Best Local Government Chairman on Infrastructures Development in Nigeria.
The organisers stated that they had gone round the local government and were impressed at the level the Itire-Ikate chairman is constructing roads, schools and other infrastructure in the area and also the fast pace at which he has transformed the council area. They added that the award was to honour him as well as a medal of honour.
Responding, Hon. Bamgbola described the day as one of the greatest in his life and stated that it shows that the council is working and moving forward. He said he decided to accept the award after he discussed with members of his cabinet and they assured him that he merited it, because according to him, “in normal circumstances, I just don’t accept awards and the question I ask is that: have the organisers gone round to see what we have done?
He, however, thanked the organisers for their initiative and said it is high time the Federal Government realised that Lagos State deserves more than the 20 local government areas.
