Notable faces and practitioners in the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, under the auspices Coalition Of Nollywood Guilds & Associations [CONGA], met today to sign a Memorandum of Understanding that will mark a new dawn for the industry.
Held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, the event, which was used as a platform to resolve the crisis that has been rocking the motion picture industry for some years now, had the likes of Stella Damasus-Nzeribe, Segun Arinze, Paul Obazele and other top Nollywood stars in attendance.
According to the National President of the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria [DGN], Bond Emeruwa, “the industry hit its peak a few years ago and there is need to move it to the next level. To achieve this, we must start by uniting every facet of the industry in Nigeria with a view to overcoming common problems that have militated against the growth of the Nigerian film industry over the years.
“Hence, it is a pleasure to hold this official signing of our MOU by Nollywood guilds and associations. This special event marks a new dawn for the Nigerian film industry as we strive towards inculcating ethics and professionalism in the industry.â€
For the first time since Nollywood became a force to reckon with, the entire guild heads that make up the industry have met to discuss the problems facing the industry and also proffer solutions to them.
As at the time of filing this report, the meeting was still in progress.
