The much awaited Unity Cup will kick off this afternoon at the Gbagada football pitch, Lagos.
Twelve clubs are expected to take part in the knock out championship organised by Gbagada Grassroots Sports Association. In the fixtures made available to GSG, Holy FC will confront Jagunmolu Babes today, while Choice FC will tackle Pablo FC on Friday.
Action continues on Saturday when Tosban FC will battle Maintain Boys as Roundabout United will trade tackles with Scay FC on Sunday.
Match Cordinator, Kemac Emina, said the competition was put together for the clubs based in Gbagada.
“It has been a long time Gbagada Grassroots Sports Association has organised football competitions for the clubs in our domain. So this championship will give some players an opportunity to showcase their talents,†he said.
Emina admonished the participating teams not to see the tourney as a do or die affair and shun any social vices that can tarnish the image of the competition.
He also said his association will organise female competition, Gbagada Mock Nations Cup and Mamora Cup before the year runs out.
“We want to keep the players busy by organising more competitions so that the youth will be fully engaged throughout the year,†he said.
