A baggage area at one of BWI Thurgood Marshal Airportâ€
The leaking bag and a puddle of orange liquid were discovered around 12:30 p.m.when Delta flight 2224 from Atlanta arrived, reports the Associated Press.
A Delta employee noticed the bag was leaking an unknown liquid, said Jonathan Dean, an airport spokesman.
The baggage claim area was immediately cleared and the terminal roadway was shut down for traffic while the BWI Airport Fire & Rescue Department, Anne Arundel County HAZMAT unit, and Maryland Transportation Authority Police investigated.
The upper level of the terminal roadway remained open.
The HAZMAT team deemed the liquid to be non-hazardous.
Dean said the liquid is believed to be a foreign medicinal substance.
Police located the bagâ€
They were questioned by Maryland Transportation Authority police and released.
The baggage claim area and lower level terminal roadway were reopened just before 3 p.m.
Dean said the investigation caused minimal impact to flight operations.
