Ogun NURTW Protests Against Caretaker Committee

At least 200  placard-carrying members of the National Union of Transport Workers, NURTW, Ijebu Ode branch, this morning marched through the streets of Ijebu Ode to protest against the imposition of a caretaker committee by the Ogun State branch of the union.

The protesters went to the palace of Awujale of Ijebu land, the palace of Olisa of Ijebu Ode, the Ijebu Ode Local Government Secretariat and later to the Lagos motor park of the union.

They took off from the Ijebu Ode Secretariat of NURTW at Osiubi Street with placards having inscriptions such as No More Caretaker Committee; Otogee, Caretaker Committee ( meaning enough of caretaker committee) and We Want Alhaji Yinus Babatunde Oseni a.k.a. Haji Babs.

Wearing the green and white uniform of the NURTW, the protesters said they were protesting against the imposition of a caretaker committee, alleging that a top member of the state NURTW was extorting money from them.

The protest was ongoing at the time of going to press.
