The management of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, AOCOED has hosted its victorious athletes at the recently concluded Lagos Inter Tertiary Games.
The college won 1 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals. The gold medal was from football after the school’s team defeated Lagos State University, LASU, in the final played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, Nigeria.
The Provost of the school, Akeem Ajose-Adeogun, expressed his appreciation to the athletes at the reception held at the school auditorium. He particularly praised the athletes that won medal in the Inter Tertiary Games, saying that the feat recorded by them was a challenge to their colleagues on the campus.
He disclosed that the school was able to win few medals in the games due to the Provost Games, an intra campus tourney, the school organised before the Inter Tertiary Championship.
“The Provost Games we organised prior to the Inter Tertiary Tournament helped us discover some athletes and it also helped us to prepare for the state’s competition,†he said.
The Provost, however, said the school will begin the preparation for the next edition of the Inter Tertiary Games which comes up in December this year.
The Registrar of the school, Bola Disu, disclosed that the athletes will be motivated to go for glory in the next edition. He noted the school hates cheating, while the authority will not encourage mercenaries in the championship.
Coach of the football team, who is also the secretary of the school’s Sports Council, Idowu Ayegbe, calls for cooperation so that AOCOED will be the leader in sports among tertiary institutions in Lagos.
