Homebased players dominated Nigeria’s female Table Tennis team to the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in India.
France-based Edem Offiong is the only foreign based player in the female team. She will be joined by home-based quartet of Ganiat Ogundele, Olaide Atinuke, Halimo Hussein and Janet Effiom.
However, Germany-based Funke Oshonaike-Irabor was excluded from the list for failing to be part of the final assessment tourney organised for the players at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Chairman, technical committee of Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, NTTF, George Segun disclosed that the former African champion was not listed as she could not make the final selection exercise, while the federation has reaffirmed its stand not to give any player an automatic shirt.
In the list submitted by the acting national coach, Lateef Sunmola and endorsed by the technical committee, home-based and current African Singles Cup champion, Aruna Quadri made the team alongside Monday Merotohun, Kazeem Nosiru, Seun Ajetunmobi and Lanre Jegede.
