All is now set for the maiden Police Unity Cup tagged Onovo 2010 Soccer Cup, which starts next month.
The sponsor, Oladipupo Ojomo, said the tournament would enhance community policing as it will bring the Nigerian Police force closer to the people.
While commending the Inspector General of Police, Ogbonna Onovo, Ojomo said the competition organised to promote sports development in the force would have the Police Area Commands in Nigeria competing for the Cup.
Representative of the AIG, Azubuko Udah, who is in charge of Zone 2, said the tournament would serve as an avenue for police officers to relax and display their skills after herculean task of maintaining peace and curbing criminal activities in the country.
Udah said the Nigerian Police have produced great athletes of international repute who have made the nation proud in many competitions, adding that they would not relent in their efforts to produce more quality athletes.
According to him, Chioma Ajunwa, who is a police officer, had a scintillating performance at the 1996 Olympic Games where she won gold medal in the long jump event.
