Man Slaps Police Inspector

For slapping a police inspector three times, a man, Ekaette Amadi, 30, has been arrested and charged before the Cele Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, Nigeria.

The accused was alleged to have slapped Inspector Benedict Melekwe while performing his lawful duty at Cele New Bridge, Ijeshatedo, Lagos.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the accused slapped the police officer after being cautioned for obstructing traffic on the bridge.

The charge reads: “That you, the defendant at the place, time and date did assault the victim by slapping him three times and obstructed him from performing his duty, an offence contrary to Sections 38, 145 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Federation 1999.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. C. T. Adesola Ikpatt granted him bail in the sum of N30,000 with one surety.

The matter has been adjourned till 15 September, 2010 for hearing.
