This yearâ€™s Dr. Olukoya International Youth football tournament begins today at the MFM Prayer City with 69 teams vying for honours.
Sponsor of the tournament, the General Oversear of Mountain Of Fire And Miracles Ministries, MFM, Dr. Olukoya, while unfolding plans for the annual tournament, said 60 of the participating teams are from their branches across the country, while 9 are from rest of Africa.
Teams representing MFM branches from Togo, Cameroon, Chad, Congo Brazsaville and Benin Republic arrived Lagos, Nigeria over the weekend while their Nigerian opponents were already on ground.
Dr. Olukoya, who was represented at the pre-tournament press briefing by the Regional Overseer, Pastor Lanre Jagun, said the competition is a success story that began in 2007 at the University of Lagos Sports Complex.
According to him, the tourney is aimed to win more souls and reposition the focus of the youths, who need a promising future.
â€œThe Dr. Olukoya Cup started about four years ago with teams from Lagos, but the 2008 edition featured teams from across Nigeria, with the Kwara branch of MFM emerging champions. And as I promised, more foreign teams are around for the 2010 edition, which would be more excitingâ€, he said.
â€œThe winners of last yearâ€™s edition went home with the sum of N3million, a giant trophy and medals and the lucky winners of this edition would also receive mouth watering prizes.â€
