Residents of Kpansia, a suburb of Yenagoa, have been thrown into grief following the discovery of the corpse of a female banker in her apartment.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered on Sunday that the lady, whose name was given as Anita Dufugha, was a staffer of the United Bank for Africa (UBA).

She was seen last in her office on Thursday.

A family source, who pleaded anonymity, told NAN that when her colleagues and relations put calls to her mobile telephone on Friday, there was no response from the number.

It was gathered that apprehensive relations consequently sent somebody to her residence, to find out what had happened, but discovered that the door was locked.

Following the situation, the police from ‘C’ Division at Akenfa were alerted.

NAN reports that the Police, on getting to her apartment, forcefully opened the door only to find her decomposing body.

Sources from the neighbourhood said there were injuries on her body, raising the suspicion of knife or machet wounds that might have been inflicted on her by suspected assailants.

Her remains have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yenagoa, mortuary.

Dufugha was said to be working at the headquarters of the UBA in Port Harcourt at Ekeki, before she was recently posted to the Amarata branch.

When contacted on telephone, the Bayelsa Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Eguavon Emokpai, who confirmed the incident, said the Police were investigating the matter.
