The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Seme Command, has announced the seizure of Cerelac baby food and cornflakes worth N25 million.
The Area Commander, Mr. Stanley Atabo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry on Monday that the products, which were packed in 1,583 cartons were imported by yet-to-be identified persons.
He said the goods, which were produced by Nestle International, Spain, were illegally imported into the country without the approval of Nestle Nigeria Plc.
Atabo said the goods were intercepted and impounded at Seme border post following a tip-off.
“Following a tip-off, our officers intercepted and impounded the goods on Aug. 10 at Seme border,’’ he said.
The commander said that the goods had been transferred to the agency’s headquarters at Oshodi, Lagos, for necessary laboratory examination.
He said no arrest was made as the driver of the vehicle with registration no. XL 101 BDG abandoned it and fled.
