Council Organises Free Classes For 3,500 Students

The Ijebu-Ode Local Government Council in Ogun State has organised a four-week free coaching classes for 3,500 students as part of its Education Enrichment Scheme.

Mrs. Amidat Eniola, the Local Government’s Supervisor for Community Development, made the disclosure in Ijebu-Ode on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Eniola, who is also the Coordinator of the coaching programme, said that over 10,000 exercise books and other writing materials worth over one million naira were distributed to students at the coaching centres.

She explained that the four-weeks coaching lessons were currently taking place at three different centres in the town, with 33 qualified teachers in each centre.

The supervisor explained that the coaching was for primary five and primary six pupils, as well as JSS1 and SS 2 students “so as to keep them busy during this long holiday period.”

She said the students were being taught the core subjects such as English language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Integrated Science.

She noted that prizes would be given to the best students at the end of the exercise, stressing that the scheme was a personal programme of the council Chairman, Mr. Mufutau Oseni, “to provide sound educational background to students.”

Recalling that the free coaching classes started five years ago, she said that a total of N3.8 million was spent.
