Council Boss Supports Ramadan Cup

The Chairman of Lagos Island Local Council, Honourable Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, has donated N200, 000 as cash prize for the winners of the Eshinlokun Ramadan Soccer Competition which kicks off on Friday at the Adeniji Adele football pitch in Lagos State.

Chairman of Lagos Island Youth Sports Association, Sakiru Aromire, told  Grassroot Soccer Guide that the council boss has issued a cheque of N200, 000 and has given   trophies to the Local Organising Committee to organise a  memorable tourney.

He said the eventual winner will go home with N100, 000 with a giant trophy, the first runner up will be given 50,000 while the teams in the third and fourth position will receive N30, 000 and N20, 000 respectively

“The competition has received the support of the Lagos Island council chairman. Hon Wasiu Eshinlokun and we are very grateful to him,” he said

Speaking ahead of today’s draw ceremony, Aromire said 16 teams have confirmed their readiness to take part in the competition, adding that all the matches will be played  in the mid night till early in the morning.

“The competition will be played in the mid night till 4am so that our Muslim brothers would be able to have their meal and prepare for fasting during the day.

“This is the fifth edition of the competition and a lot of people do come out to cheer their teams to victory,” said Aromire, who invited the council boss and other  sport philanthropists to grace the opening match.

He also thanked the proprietor of the WAS LAT Schools, Alhaji Adumadeyin Wasiu, for his support for the competition.

Meanwhile, Aromire charged the players to be good ambassadors of their teams  throughout the competition, while advising the participating Muslims among them to observe the Ramadan fasting.

He warned the players not to foment trouble during the competition because any player caught will  be sanctioned accordingly.

Among the teams that will take part in the two weeks competition are Soja Boys, Ibile Boys,  Seaside FC, Idumota FC, Fatty FC and Church Street football team
