Tekan Odediran, the Media Assistant to Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Musiliu Obanikoro, has joined the race to the Osun State House of Assembly in 2011 election.
Odediran, a seasoned journalist and native of Esa-Oke in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, who proposes to contest on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), noted that he is in the race as a result of the compelling urge for service to humanity especially, his people at home.
While soliciting the support of the media and others, Odediran, who tagged himself the new face of hope, possibilities and change, noted that his professional background as political journalist, personal experience and active involvement in politics since 2006 as Media Assistant to Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, prepared him for the task ahead.
“I am very much aware that the challenges of participating in our current democratic space are enormous and that is why I humbly seek the support of my first constituency, the media and those of others, so as to collectively chart a sustainable direction for development and unique service to the people,†he enthused.
While commending the efforts of senior colleagues who are shining examples in various political fields, Loko Ibo, as he is fondly called in political circle, reinstated his commitment to positive change and to always uphold the ethics of journalism by having a robust regard for public interest.
“It is obvious that I am now representing two constituencies, that is, the media and my political base and I promise to be good ambassador to both.
“My professional background as a journalist entails a high degree of public trust, so, it is therefore expected of me to always have a robust regard for public interest which I have over the years demonstrated in my accomplishments.
“More so, as an apostle of effective involvement of professionals and young people in the life and decision making of their social and political communities, I am convinced that my involvement in politics would encourage more youths and professionals to join the crusade for a change in their various political communities by participating actively in politics,†he stated.
