The Federal University Pensioners’ Association (FUPA), Ahmadu Bello University chapter, has distributed rice to members under a credit scheme.
The Chairman of the association, Dr. Ayuba Audu-Kura, said in a statement on Wednesday in Zaria that the initiative was to curtail the difficulties encountered by some pensioners during the Ramadan.
Audu-Kura, who is also the National President of the association, said repayment would be made by members in instalments.
He also advised members to renew their identity cards, saying the body was doing all it could to protect their interests.
Audu-Kura further urged members to ignore a report alleging that FUPA was an insurance company.
“I appeal to you to renew your identity cards and ignore the propaganda that FUPA is an insurance company; this is not true.
“FUPA is an association approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria for pensioners who served and retired in Federal Government-owned universities.
“The association has nothing to do with any insurance company,’’ he said.
