Residents of Cole Street in Itire/Ikate Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, South West Nigeria, have called on the state government and the area council authorities to repair the deplorable road that is fast becoming impassible.
Some of those that spoke with Lagos Bulletin said the road has been abandoned and that if it not repaired now, it may soon become totally impassible.
The residents also said that the road leads to Anjorin, a major road as well to the council’s secretariat and where the former Vice Chairman of the council has his house.
They urged Mr. Hakeem Bamgbola, the council chairman, not to nurse the idea that the road belongs to the state government by giving it a palliative measure pending the time the state government will be ready to rehabilitate it.
It was gathered that efforts by the residents to draw the attention of the council authority to the state of the road, especially during the rainy season, did not yield the desired result.
According to a resident, “several efforts have been made by community leaders for the rehabilitation of the road but to no avail.
“We are now using this medium to beg the local council authority, the state government and the agency in charge of road rehabilitation in the state to come to our aid.â€
Another resident, Bamidele Ajomale, said that apart from the deplorable state of the road another problem that they are facing is that of drainage and called for its clearance.
