A man, Abdul Jubril, has knocked out two teeth from his wife, Lovett, while fighting.
The fight which lasted for over an hour resulted in Lovett sustaining injuries. The incident occurred at their residence, 57, Olaniyi Street, Egbeda, Lagos, Nigeria.
The estranged couple, it was learnt, has been fighting each other for some years now due to incompatibility. The situation got to a stage that the wife packed out of the matrimonial home last year, leaving her three children for the man.
When the man could not take proper care of the children, he decided to hire a househelp to assist in taking care of the children. When the wife got to know about it, she reportedly went to the house and engaged the maid in a fight. Her husband, it was gathered, joined the maid in beating her and she lost two teeth in the process.
The fighting attracted the attention of policemen from Idimu Police Station and the husband was arrested and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for assault.
He pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge and was granted bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter has been adjourned till 1 September, 2010.
The defendant has been remanded in prison custody, pending his fulfillment of the bail conditions.
