The Katsina State Chapter of the Joint Health Sector Union on Tuesday suspended the strike it embarked on two weeks ago.

The Chairman of the union, Mr. Aminu Usman, announced the suspension of the strike at a news conference in Katsina.

He said the decision to suspend the strike followed the outbreak of cholera which had so far claimed many lives in some parts of the state.

The suspension, he added, was also sequel to government’s resolve to meet the demands of the health workers.

“The state government is going to pay us 35 percent enhanced mark over the salary we are earning.

“Government will then look at the financial capacity vis-a-vis the implementation level in neighbouring states and implement same for us,’’ he said.

He commended members of the union for their unflinching support throughout the period of the strike while urging them to resume work immediately.

Usman dismissed speculations that government was planning to stop the salaries of workers, adding that the administration even apologised to the union over the rumour.
