The much awaited Kofoworola Martins Women Competition will kick off 12 September at the Gbagada Roundabout Football Pitch.
The competition is organised by Gbagada Grassroots Sports Association and sponsored by Mrs. Kofoworola Martins, a lawyer.
Match coordinator, Kemac Emina, told GSG that it has been long the association organised female competition. He therefore commended the sponsor for her contribution to female football development in Lagos State.
“Our discussion with a sponsor is in advanced stage. Members of the association will be there this evening to present our budget. Many clubs have shown interest in our competitions and we promise to host a hitch free tourney,†he said.
Emina urged the other football organisers to organise female football competition, saying most of the female players train regularly without engaging in any competition.
He said the time has come to develop Nigeria Female Football at the grassroots level, instead of concentrating only on the male football competitions.
“It is better to give female clubs in Lagos a chance to take part in as many as possible football competitions. If we don’t do that, we will kill female football in Nigeria,†he said.
