A 26-year-old butcher, Wasiu Azeez, has been docked at the Shomolu magistrate’s court for stealing iron rods valued at N10,000 property of a company, FECHAD Nigeria Limited.
The police docked him on a two-count charge of committing felony, to wit stealing, an offence punishable under section 516 and section 390 (9) criminal code cap 38 vol.11 laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
Wasiu who was arrested by a police officer from Pedro police station cried like a baby while speaking with P.M.NEWS at the court. He said: “I was not the one who stole the iron, I only went to urinate when some boys accosted me and accused me of knowing one Alfa that stole the iron rods. They claimed they saw me greeting the Alfa before he ran away.”
“I was held responsible for the theft. Before I could say anything, they started beating me, they threw me over the fence of a primary school and called the police to arrest me.â€
The investigating police officer, IPO, Tijani Jubril from Pedro division said Wasiu was arrested by some people in the community before they called the police.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was admitted to bail while the matter was adjourned for mention.
