Players of Nigeriaâ€™s Super Eagles have declared that they learnt a bitter lesson with theirÂ early ouster from the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The players now resolved that they needed to redeem their image, which they did with the 2-0Â victory over Madagascar in the Nations Cup qualifier in Calabar yesterday.
Captain of the side, Joseph Yobo told P.M.Sports after yesterdayâ€™s match that â€œour dismalÂ performance at the World Cup taught us a big lesson and we must play to redeem Nigeriaâ€™sÂ image. We have started this by defeating Madagascar.â€
Chidi Odiah said the team are gradually coming back and called on Nigerians to give them theÂ necessary support to secure the 2012 Nations Cup ticket. He said: â€œWe are coming backÂ gradually from the disaster of South Africa 2010. Madagascar were no pushover but winningÂ the match was good for us.â€
Obafemi Martins, goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and Daniel Shittu said the victory will rekindleÂ the spirit in the squad.
