The newly elected president of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Dr. Joseph Dauda, has blasted the Inspector-General of Police, Ogbonna Onovo over his refusal to obey a court order.
Dauda said that it was unfortunate that the IG, who is a public officer, was giving the impression that he was above the law.
“If, indeed, the IG made the statement that he was still waiting for the person that will come to arrest him, that nobody could arrest him as ordered by the court amounts to abuse of office.â€
He reiterated that the IG was not above the law and NBA was capable of enforcing his arrest.
The NBA president stated this at the launch of a book by a Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana in Lagos yesterday.
The 351-page book titled Fundamental Rights Enforcement in Nigeria, was the second edition written by Falana. The first edition was writtein in 2005.
