An educationist, Mr. Abiamuwa Akaduchieme, has stated that the educational system ought to provide solutions to the problems and challenges within the society if things are rightly done.
He stated this at the graduation ceremony of Shining Lord’s College, Ebute Metta, Lagos.
The school proprietor said: “We believe that the educational system should be the one to give lead to the nation in breaking new grounds, new frontiers, technology wise and so on. Part of the essence of education is for it to be able to provide solutions to the problems and challenges of humanity.
“In Nigeria, we have witnessed incessant power failure over the years. There is hardly any improvement in electricity power supply in our society. So, we cannot fold our hands and continue to complain and wait for government as if it has all the answers to all the problems.
“You know they say necessity is the mother of invention. So, we thought of marking our graduation ceremony with the launching of our fuel-less generator. We want Nigerians to realise that technology is not for the white or Asians alone; we can do what they are doing.
“Our teachers and some of our consultants were able to groom the students and they were able to build a fuel-less generator. We have tested it and it is fantastic.
“When you consider the cost of running the normal traditional generator and the dangers associated with it, then you will know that this is a tremendous progress for us in this part of the world. Actually, we have two others technology-based projects we are still going to launch before the year runs out.â€
Meanwhile, he was full of joy as the college turned out its pioneering students since the post-primary school was established. He, however, mentioned negative support from many of the parents and finance as major obstacles the college has been contending with.
