Okada Rider Drugged

A commercial motorcyclist (Okada), Salawu Adebayo, was recently drugged by a suspected thief  who tried to steal his motorcycle.

gathered that the suspect, James Iheme, 28, chartered Salawu’s Okada for a trip to  an eatery Shangisha, Magodo area of Lagos State where he drugged him.

Luck ran out on Iheme when an attendant in the eatry noticed the Okada rider’s strange  behaviour and raised an alarm.

The suspect was arrested and later arraigned  before an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court for attempt  to steal.

The charge against him reads: “That you, James Iheme, on 23 August, 2010, at Royal Eatery,  57, Adebayo Avenue, Shangisha, Magodo, Lagos State, trickishly administered super apetit  table salt into a pack of small 5 Alive juice and gave it to Salawu Adebayo to drink in  order to make him sleep with intent to steal his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration  number QK 140 AKD and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 331 of the  Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty and the magistrate, Mrs. Aje Afunwa  admitted him on bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, the court ruled, must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State  government.

The case was later adjourned till 29 September, 2010 for trial.
