Nigeria Taekwondo Federation has concluded plans to organise the Korean Ambassador Taekwondo Championship slated for between 2 and 5 December at the Abuja National Stadium.
The championship, which is sponsored by the Korea Embassy, will be used by Nigerian coaches to select athletes that will represent Nigeria in the forthcoming All Africa Games scheduled for Mozambique next year.
The organisers have invited athletes from Mali, Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic and Cote d’Ivoire to take part in the four-day championship.
Scribe of the federation, Chinedu Ogundare, told P.M.Sports in Lagos that the championship will help Nigerian coaches to assess the local athletes ahead of next year’s All Africa Games in Mozambique.
“The championship will bring the best out of Nigerian athletes because they are going to compete with other athletes from West African countries. Our target is to look out for the best among our taekwodoists in the tourney because we want to begin preparation for the All Africa Games,†she said.
She disclosed that prior to the championship, the federation will hold its board meeting on 23 September in Lagos. She said top on the agenda is how to move taekwondo forward in the country
