Electronics International Market, Onitsha, Anambra, was thrown into confusion on Monday as gunmen abducted Chief Okechukwu Okolie, the Chairman of the market union.
Sources at the market said Okolie, popularly called Gozac, was taken at Oguta Road within Onitsha metropolis.
According to an eyewitness, Okoli was abducted at about 10 a.m. at the ever-busy Oguta Road by five armed men clad in chieftaincy regalia.
The eyewitness said the abductors came in a sports utility vehicle (SUV).
“The gunmen shot at his Toyota Camry car, forced him out of it and pushed him into their SUV,†he said.
Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said the abduction had not been reported to the command.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), however, reports that Okolie’s car had been taken to the Police Area Command, Onitsha.
NAN adds that his family members and his colleagues at the market were yet to be contacted by the abductors.
