The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), is set to create more wards and polling units to ensure effective democratic representation.
The commission said in Apapa on Monday that it would make 15,886 persons per ward its benchmark as against the current 36,000.
It also explained that because of their dense population, Apapa, Kosofe and Alimoso councils are likely to have more wards and polling units after the delineation.
Addressing a stakeholoders’ meeting, the commission’s chairman, Justice Abdul Fatai Adeyinka (retd), said the delineation of wards and creation of additional polling units would be based on four criteria, which he said, are population, contiguity, geography and cultural affinity.
