The Acting President of Rotary Club of Tin-Can Island, Lagos, District 9110 Rotary International, Rotn Francis Aniezechukwu, has passionately pleaded with the government at all tiers and the society, to please assist the Rotary International, execute its numerous programmes to alleviate the problems of all, especially, the suffering masses.
He said it is important for the wealthy, the privileged and the organised private sector, to join the Rotary Club in its capacity building programmes, as government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility.
These remarks were made at the end of the club’s membership and extension awareness drive and walk, which flagged off from the premises of ThisDay Newspapers in Apapa, Lagos.
Outlining the various projects commissioned and executed by the club, Rotn Francis Aniezechukwu, reiterated on the need for the society and government to partner effectively and to continue to appraise the laudable, tireless contributions of the well over N1.2 million Rotarians spread all over the globe.
The club’s Acting President, stressed the need for such efforts to continue to bridge the gap between the poor and the wealthy through its numerous programmes such as micro-credit finance facilities, effective healthcare service delivery and support, especially with the polio-eradication, eye screening tests and provision of eye glasses to arrest glaucoma or any other eye disease, as well as the provision of other socio-economic and infrastructural assistance.
He added that the club is also looking to assist in the areas of educational materials, coupled with the counselling of students, parents and guardians across the nation in addition to other human capacity development and empowerment programmes, to stem unforseen chaos that might arise from frustration in the society.
