Residents of Isiu, a community in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, have heaved a sigh of relief after the arrest of land speculators and hoodlums, who had been disturbing the peace of the town, by the Lagos State Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.
Speaking with P.M.NEWS, a resident and Olootu Ebi of the Solaya Family, Chief Isaac Adeniyi Ogunbola stated that there had been series of robbery, kidnapping and intimidation by a group of land speculators in Isiu town and afer writing a petition to the police authorities, men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, came into the town and arrested the suspects. Firearms were allegedly recovered from the suspects.
According to Chief Ogunbola, “these hoodlums who are neither indigenes nor residents of the town have been harassing and molesting innocent residents, and we have made several reports to the police before they were eventually arrested last Friday.
“They have been transferred to the SARS headquarters and we want to implore the police to ensure that justice is effectively administered, while we also commend them for the prompt response,” he added.
In a related development, the Lagos State House of Assembly is presently considering a bill on criminal conduct to regulate public order and when the bill, which has gone through the public hearing stage, is finally passed into law, the activities of land grabbers, speculators and other individuals who profit from violence will be sanctioned by law. The purpose of the law, according to the legislators, is to promiote an orderly society and foster collective obligations and duty towards the preservation ad protection of lives and properties.
