The organisers of the second Lagos Governoor’s Open Squash Championship has earmarked the sum of Ten Million naira as prize money for the championship which gets underway tomorrow at the Lagos State Sports Council, Rowe Park, Lagos, Nigeria.
The championship, which is expected to feature over 400 squash players from home and abroad will attract the sum of $10,000 for the winner in the men’s Professional Squash Association (PSA) cadre. The runner up will get the sum of $7,500, while the third and fourth positions get $5000 and $3,000 respectively.
Players in the fifth to 8th positions will get $500, while those in the 9th to 16th will get $200 each.
In the women’s category, the winner will get $3,000, the runner up gets $1,500, while the semi finalists will go home with $750 each.
All quarter finalists will also receive competition fee of $250 to encourage the participants.
Chairman, Main Organising Committee of the championship, Deji Welliington, said top rated squash players are expected from countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ghana,Turkey, Sierra Leone, Lesotho, Egypt, Kenya and Zambia.
He added that the participating players will arrive today.
