The desire to get married and settledown landed a 23-year old woman in trouble when sheÂ lost N400,000 to her lover.
The woman, Kate Okon Uweh claimed that her lover, Matthew Joseph Etuk, 24, has robbed herÂ of N400,000 on they pretence of getting her a shop so that he will marry her.
The complainant claimed that Matthew approached her and said that he was willing to marryÂ her. He also promised to open a shop where she can earn a legitimate earning.
She obliged him and asked him to look for a shopn at Igando area. Later he told her toÂ bring money so that they could pay for the shop.
Kate, claimed that she was in possession of money while they were travelling from IdimuÂ to Igando, Matthew was making calls. Later she discovered that he did not arrange to hireÂ any shop as he claimed.
She narrated that while they were going back to Idimu in a taxi, two men on motorcyclesÂ stopped them and claimed that they were policemen and snatched the bag containing theÂ N400,000.
â€œWhile they were escaping, Matthew attempted to ride with them on the same motorcycle. IÂ drew him back and came to the conclusion that he planned the attack,â€ she revealed.
Kate said she raised an alarm and passersby helped her to apprehend Matthew. The policeÂ was later invited and he was arrested and taken to the station.
Matthew was charged to Ejigbo Magistrateâ€™s Court with conspiracy and stealing. When theÂ charge was read to him, he pleadaed not guilty.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. S. O. Solebo granted him bnail in the sum of N400,000 withÂ one surety in the like sum.
The matter was adjourned till 6 October, 2010 for trial.
