President of Nigeria School Sports Federation, NSSF, Ibrahim Muhammed, says the decline in sports in the country is due to the neglect of school sports.
Speaking with Basketball Timeout ahead of the draws of the of 2010 Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship, which comes up in Lagos next week, Monday, Muhammed stated that Nigerian sports will continue to go down until the authorities go back to school sports system, which is the country has abandoned for a very long time.
While commending the sponsors of the Milo Secondary School Championship, Nestle Plc. for the sponsorship of the oldest school sports event in the past 11 years, Muhammed charged sports administrators to work for the development of Nigerian youths.
General Secretary of the federation, Olabisi Joseph warned schools that qualified for the championship against the use of mercenaries, warning that any school found cheating will be dealt with, as ban from future competitions await such schools.
