President of Nigeria School Sports Federation, NSSF, Ibrahim Muhammed, says the declineÂ in sports in the country is due to the neglect of school sports.
Speaking with Basketball Timeout ahead of the draws of the of 2010Â Nestle Milo SecondaryÂ Schools Basketball Championship, which comes up in Lagos next week, Monday, MuhammedÂ stated that Nigerian sports will continue to go down until the authorities go back toÂ school sports system, which is the country has abandoned for a very long time.
While commending the sponsors of the Milo Secondary School Championship, NestleÂ Plc. forÂ the sponsorship of the oldest school sports event in the past 11 years, Muhammed chargedÂ sports administrators to workÂ for the development of Nigerian youths.
General Secretary of the federation, Olabisi Joseph warned schools that qualified for theÂ championship against the use of mercenaries, warning that any school found cheating willÂ be dealt with, as ban from future competitions await such schools.
