Five-time champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria will kick off their quest to reclaim the Africa Women’s Championship, AWC title against debutants, Mali, but they would compete in the same group with hosts, South Africa.

The Coach Uche Eucharia-led Falcons were this afternoon drawn to play in Group A against the Bayana Bayana of South Africa, Tanzania and Mali for the 7th Africa Women’s Championship.

The draw was held at the Birchwood Hotel, Ekurhuleni City, South Africa.

Holders of the AWC title, Equatorial Guinea found themselves in what looks like the group of death, where Ghana, Algeria and Cameroon make up Group B.

From the draw, teams in each group will engage eachother on a round-robin basis with the group winners and runners-up advancing to the semi-final and eventually the final.

Matches for the tournament are scheduled from 31 October through 14 November at the Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton and Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa, in the Ekurhuleni Municipality of the Gauteng Province in South Africa.

The finalists will represent Africa at the next edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup slated for Germany from 26 June through 17 July, 2011.

The ceremony also saw the unveiling of the official logo of the tournament.

Top Confederation of African Football, CAF officials and executives of the South Africa Football Association, SAFA, attended the draw.
