Motorists and road users plying the Ozumba Mbadiwe–Ajah road on Saturday afternoon could not hold back tears when an unidentified motorcyclists, who defied the directive of the Lagos State government banning commercial motorcyclists from plying certain areas in the state for safety reasons, was crushed to death by a trailer with registration number XA573RRM.
The accident occurred near the Nigerian Law School on Victoria Island, Lagos.
Eye witnesses at the scene of the accident told P.M.NEWS that the Okada rider, whose bike has registration number QS498EKY, rode his motorcycle recklessly and ran into the rear tyre of the trailer and was crushed to death instantly.
The accident caused a traffic snarl on the busy highway stretching up to the new toll gate on the Lekki-Ajah Expressway as motorists slowed down to catch a glimpse of the gory scene.
However, the zonal commander of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Victoria Island, Mr. Ariyo Jimoh and officers from Bar Beach Police Station were on ground to control the traffic.
The police later removed the corpse to the Isolo General Hospital mortuary while the trailer driver has been detained at the Bar Beach, Police Division.
