Man Sent To Prison For Killing Lover

A 46-year old clearing and forwarding agent, Emmanuel Adun, an Edo State indigene, has  been arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos South-West Nigeria, for  allegedly killing his lover, Paulina Oviabo, a Delta State indigene.

He was ordered to be remanded in prison custody.

Emmanuel was said to have killed his lover on 29 July, 2010 at 3, Oguntade street, Lekan  Adebisi Street, Egan, Igando, Lagos.

The accused, a father of four and the deceased who was a caterer and mother of one had  been lovers since 2001. It was gathered that the late Paulina had no child for the  defendant.

The one count charge against him read: “that you Emmanuel Adun, 46, on 29 July, 2010 at  about 7 p.m. at 3 Oguntade Street, off Leka Adebisi Street, Egan, Igando, Lagos, in the  Lagos Magisterial District an unlawful killed one Paulina Oviabo, 48, by forcefully  throwing her down on the ground, sat on her stomach and choked on the her neck with two  hands and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal  code, Cap. C17, Vol. 2, laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”

The prosecutor, Mr. Ekundayo Gabriel, a police sergeant, told the court that there is an  application before the court for the remand of the defendant.

The trial magistrate, Mrs. H. O. Omisore, granted the application and ordered the  defendant to be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of the advice from the  Director of Public Prosecution, DPP’s Office.

Omisore, however, adjourned the case till 24 November, 2010 for mention.
