Barrister Monday Onyekachi Ubani, a legal practitioner from Abia State, has emerged the Patriot 2010, in the first ever radio contest organised to celebrate Nigeria’s independence.
Tagged the Golden Moments Of An Evergreen Nation, the contest was presented by the Daily Guide crew- Mofe and Moyo Oyatogun, Seun Awosika and Emmanuel Olujohungbe, under the supervision of Mr. Kunle Gbadeyanka, the General Manager, Star 101.5 FM, the host station .
The contest seeks to reward Nigerians who are knowledgeable about Nigeria. It lasted throughout the month of September 2010 and required listeners to research deeply into Nigeria and learn new things about the country.
Amongst other requirements, contestants were tested on their knowledge of other parts of the country, outside their states of origin. For instance, Yoruba speaking contestants were tasked to address the audience in either Hausa or Ibo.
Barr Ubani, who won the contest, is of Igbo origin but speaks Yoruba and Hausa.
He won the hearts of the judges when he was required to encourage Nigerians to go out and vote in the upcoming elections in Hausa language.
He is also known to be a Nigerian of selfless character, who has offered a lot of free legal services to Nigerians in need.
Mr. Frank Mba, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, came second. He advised Nigerians to shun crime in Yoruba language.
