The World Bank has commended the Edo government for its prudent management of the state’s finances.
The country director of the Bank, Mr Onno Ruhl, gave the commendation on Monday in Benin after he presented the report on Public Expenditure Management Financial Accountability Report to Gov. Adams Oshiomhole.
Ruhl said that Edo was now qualified for the take-off of the second phase of the bank’s development partnership programme.
He said that Edo was the second, after Lagos State, to move to the second phase of the programme.
“What is good in coming to Edo State is that every time we come, something is happening, there is progress and I don’t like to measure progress in terms of report,†he said.
Ruhl said that Edo government was an example of a state delivering service to the people, adding that the bank would like to collaborate with governments at the national and state levels to deliver services to the people.
Responding, Oshiomhole expressed the state government’s commitment to prudent financial management and execution of more people-oriented projects.
