With less than four days to the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sily National of Guinea, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are still in the dark whether the match will go ahead as planned.
Coaches and players of the senior national team are worried that with the FIFA ban still in place, the qualifier may not hold. But a report from Guinea early today revealed that coach of the Eagles’ opponents, Frenchman Michel Dussuyer, has received a notice from the Guinea Football Federation that the crucial match has been postponed.
Dussuyer said: “We received a fax this morning from the Guinea football federation, confirming to us the Guinea-Nigeria match has been postponed till further notice. No reasons were given. We’re waiting for further clarifications.â€
Eagles’ coach, Austin Eguavoen, who is confused with the way the whole scenario is being played out at this time that his team should focus on their training for the match said: “We, the coaches and players, are waiting and hoping that the crisis comes to an end very soon so that we can return to international football.â€
