Council Staff Docked For Stealing Seized Okada

A staff of Isheri-Ikosi Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Lagos State, Nigeria, Adewale Dairo, 25, has been docked at the Isheri-Oke Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a motorcycle he seized from an Okada rider.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Adewale and his supervisor were raiding okada riders at Olowo-Ira junction in the council area at about 11 a.m. on 13 August, 2010.

They seized Afolabi Gbenro’s motorbike and the leader of the group ordered the suspect to move the motorbike to their office in Ikosi-Ketu. Dairo was said to have disappeared with the bike.

But luck ran against Adewale when he was sighted with the Okada and he was arrested and docked.

The police prosecutor, Inspector John Olpe alleged that Adewale Dairo, stole the motorcycle, a Bajaj with registration number QX234BDG, valued at N94,000.

According to the police, the offence is punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17 Vol. II laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003. When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. Y. T. Ajeafunwa, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned for mention.
