The lawmaker representing Lagos Island Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House ofÂ Assembly, Abdul Wahab Olawale Alawiye-King, has described the death of a foremostÂ educationist and former Minister of Education, Professor Aliu Babatunde Fafunwa, as lossÂ of a major pillar in the education sector in the country.
Alawiye-King, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Education, in a condolence message,Â said the academic sector would miss him dearly.
According to him, â€œas an erudite scholar, patriot, educationist and one of our greatÂ leaders, whose contributions and active participation in all initiatives to repostion theÂ countryâ€™s education remained unequalled, Prof. Fafunwaâ€™s death is a loss to the entireÂ Lagos â€˜Islandersâ€™ in particular and Lagos State in general.â€
While praying for the repose of th soul of the departed statesman, Alawiye-King alsoÂ prayed that Allah will give his family, the entire people of Lagos and the nation theÂ fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
