FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, has urged the National Examinations Council (NECO) to fight and eradicate examination malpractices in the country.
A statement from the ministry on Tuesday in Abuja stated that the minister made the call when NECO management team paid him a courtesy call in his office.
The minister said examination malpractices had destroyed the country’s education sector and retarding the nation’s development.
Mohammed decried the falling standard of education, and called on all stakeholders to face the challenge as the nation could not afford to toy with the future of the youth.
He called on governors of the 36 states of the federation to conduct more investigation on the state of educational infrastructure to find solution to the problem, adding that the Federal Government alone could not solve it.
He directed the FCT Permanent Secretary, Mr. Nathaniel Olorunfemi, and the FCT Education Secretary, Mr. Hussaini Pai, to get an office accommodation for NECO in FCT within two weeks.
Speaking earlier, NECO Chairman Yero Bello said FCT students were among the best few in the country.
He said the FCT was almost free of examination malpractices as it accounted for only 0.08 percent of all the examination malpractice in the previous SSCE examinations.
