Aviation Safety Conference Holds In Lagos

The Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB will hold the 2010 edition of its annual safety conference between 18 and 19 October, 2010 at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Lagos, Nigeria.

The theme of the conference is: “Human Factors in Aviation Safety,” the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Tunji Oketunbi, said in a statement.

P.M.NEWS learnt that, despite increasing technological advancement in design and manufacture of aircraft and navigational aids, human errors still account for more than 75 percent of air mishaps.

The conference is expected to provide a forum for exchange of ideas by stakeholders on how to manage air safety and human factor challenges therein.

Billed to speak at the conference are Mr. Dennis Jones, NTSB, USA, Dr. Robert Baron of The Aviation Consulting Group, USA; Mr. Michael Pole, CAE Flightscape Incorporated, Canada; Dr. O. B. Aliu, Nigerian representative at ICAO Council; Engr. F. C. Onyeyiri (AFCAC), Dr. H. O. Demuren, Director-General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA); Mr. Richard Aisuebeogun, Managing Director, FAAN and Alhaji Ibrahim Auyo, Managing Director, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, among others.

Among the topics for discussion at the conference are Human Factors in Air traffic Management – Nigerian experience; Human factors in Accident Investigation; Human factors in Aircraft Maintenance and inspection.

Accident investigation is a government agency charged with the responsibility of investigating aircraft accidents and serious incidents in order to prevent future occurrence.
