In line with its World Teachers Day celebration, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Surulere branch, has given a Merit Award of Excellence to the chairman of Itire/Ikate Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.
Speaking at the ceremony, the president of the NUT, Surulere branch, Comrade G.A Bisiriyu, commended the chairman for his immense contribution to education in Surulere and Lagos State in general. He said to show their appreciation, they have honoured him with the award and he urged other council chairmen in the state to emulate Bamgbola’s gesture by ensuring that pupils and teachers in their respective areas are properly taken care of.
Receiving the award, Bamgbola thanked the union and said that he is very proud to be a recipient of such teachers’ pride. He said his administration would continue to support the teachers because he believes their reward is here on earth and not in heaven as they say, and they would also continue to support the educational system through its school support initiative by ensuing that all children have access to free and qualitative education.
