In line with its World Teachers Day celebration, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, SurulereÂ branch, has given a Merit Award of Excellence to the chairman of Itire/Ikate LocalÂ Council Development Area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.
Speaking at the ceremony, the president of the NUT, Surulere branch, Comrade G.AÂ Bisiriyu, commended the chairman for his immense contribution to education in SurulereÂ and Lagos State in general. He said to show their appreciation, they have honoured himÂ with the award and he urged other council chairmen in the state to emulate Bamgbolaâ€™sÂ gesture by ensuring that pupils and teachers in their respective areas are properly takenÂ care of.
Receiving the award, Bamgbola thanked the union and said that he is very proud to be aÂ recipient of suchÂ teachers’ pride. He said his administration would continue to supportÂ the teachers because he believes their reward is here on earth and not in heaven as theyÂ say, and they would also continue to support the educational system through its schoolÂ support initiative by ensuing thatÂ all children have access to free and qualitativeÂ education.
