Doctors’ Strike: Owutu Rehab Centre Records Sudden Deaths
Following the strike by doctors of Lagos State government hospitals, the Lagos State Rehabilitation Centre has been hit by sudden and unnatural deaths.
A P.M.NEWS source confirmed that within the last two weeks, no fewer than six deaths have been recorded among the inmates in the centre.
The source further disclosed that on 1 October, the centre recorded the death of one Shoyebo Sunday, a 60-year old physically challenge man from Oyo State. On 2 October, another inmate, Owolabi Adebambo, a 39-year old physically challenged man also from Oyo State gave up the ghost.
On 7 October, yet another disabled man popularly called Kehinde, 30, from Osun State died due to lack of proper medical care in the centre.
When this reporter visited Owutu Police Station where all the deaths were reported, the Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Monday Okpan, declined comments on the matter but a police source who confirmed the incident on condition of anonymity said all the cases were recorded as sudden unnatural death and advised the state government to do something urgently to remedy the situation.
