An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday ordered that a female hairdresser and three others be remanded in Ado-Ekiti prison for allegedly beating one Saliu Adams to death during a fight.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the four accused were alleged to have committed the act with pieces of logs, which they used to beat Adams to death.
According to the charge sheet, the accused, Ojo Dada, 45, Lateef Bamisile, 21, Emmanuel Baba, 27 and a female, Abosede Amidu, 25 are being charged with felony and murder.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr. Anthony Jayeola, told the court that the accused persons had on Sept. 29, at about 6.30 p.m. during a fight with the deceased, used a log of wood to beat him until he died.
Jayeola said that the defendant thereby committed felony, which is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap.30, Vol. 2, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 1978.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused persons in prison custody to await the conclusion of investigations and while awaiting legal advice from the Ministry of Justice.
Counsel to the accused persons, Mr. Emmanuel Adetifa, appealed to the court to grant them bail, pending the conclusion of investigations.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate R.A. Adegboye ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody, while the court awaits legal advice from the office of the Director for Public Prosecution.
Adegboye then adjourned the case to 19 November.
