Infidelity: Court Dissolves 15-Year Old Marriage
The Hwolshe Area Court in Jos on Tuesday dissolved a 15-year-old marriage between Mr. Benedict Silas and his wife, Rhoda following alleged infidelity committed by the wife.
Silas had gone to court to pray for the dissolution of the marriage after alleging that his wife, Rhoda, was “in the habit of sleeping outside the house.”
He said that the marriage was blessed with five children and that they had both agreed to plan their family by having no additional child.
“But even after I stopped sleeping with her she has been pregnant two times,” Silas told the court.
He alleged that Rhoda was currently carrying a pregnancy whose paternity was not known to him.
The plaintiff further alleged that he had tried to resolve the matter by meeting with elders from both sides but that the situation had not changed.
Silas therefore prayed the court to dissolve the marriage as two of them could no longer stay under one roof.
Dissolving the marriage on Tuesday, the Presiding Judge, Alhaji Umar Shuaibu, said that he took the decision because the respondent refused to appear in court.
