A 51-year-old female pastor, Adeola Momoh, was on Tuesday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on allegation of obtaining N405,000 from a complainant, Mr. Lanre Ogunyinka.
Momoh is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Rachael Williams, told the court that Momoh fraudulently obtained the amount from Ogunyinka with a promise of leasing out a one-room apartment to him.
Williams said Ogunyinka, who was desperately looking for an accommodation, quickly parted with the money.
She said that Momoh failed to provide the accommodation but instead, came up with stories each time she was approached by Ogunyinka.
She said the offence was committed in February 2009, at 3, Ola Oluwa Close, off Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeja.
Williams said Momoh converted the money to personal use as she was unable to refund it or provide the one-room apartment.
Momoh, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, O.A. Adegite, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to 28 October.
