Football fans who came to Campos Square Sport Centre, Lagos Island, Nigeria to watch a match between Almighty FC and New Camp Football team were disappointed after the Chairman of Lagos Island, Wasiu Eshilokun failed to show up during the final of the tourney named after him.
P.M.Sport eavesdropped the fans’ disappointment when some spectators were complaining about the attitude of the council boss towards the competition.
Some of them blamed the organisers for stagging the competition in his name.
“Eshilokun does not like the youths of the Island because this competition was organised on his behalf and he failed to show up. This is not good for his image on the Island,†chorused some of the disappointed fans on Lagos Island.
Despite the absence of the Council Boss, the final ceremony lived up to expectations as Almighty FC defeated New Camp 4-2 in a pulsating final watched by hundreds of football fans.
Jimoh Eletu netted New Camp’s opening goal barely five minutes into the match, but Dimeji Hassan of Almighty replied with an equaliser few minutes later.
Akeem Adeleke again shot New camp into the lead with a die minute goal before the break.
Almighty equalised again through Saheed Ayinde while Azeez Adewuyi and Hassan sealed victory for them with two second half goals.
Almighty Coach,Aliu Babatunde who was excited about the victory said the game was tough but expressed gratitude to God that his team achieved the desired result.
He promised to defend the title in the next edition.
“It was a hard victory for us.We were focused even after they scored first, but we took our advantage in the second half to score two quick goals, that won the match for us,†he said.
New Camp Coach, Batula Abdul admitted that their opponents were too strong for his team to handle, saying that they will do better in the next edition.
The Chairman, Organising Committee, Sakiru Aromire however apologised on behalf of Eshinlokun.
He defended the council boss, saying he went for a crucial assignment, which did not allow him to grace the final ceremony.
“There is no way we can postpone the final again because the council boss gave us the date to stage the final. We thought he would be available,†said Aromire, who urged the fans to support the council boss in his administration.
