As registration of members of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Ogun State kicked off yesterday in 236 wards of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has expressed hope to be picked as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2011 election.
Speaking in Lagos yesterday at an event organised by the Media Ethics Organisation, Senator Amosun, said it is his wish to be officially picked as the candidate of the ACN in the 2011 governorship race in Ogun State.
P.M.NEWS gathered that Amosun’s posters have already flooded Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, in preparation for the battle ahead.
The former ANPP governoship candidate said he believed in fiscal federalism and canvassed for transparency and openness in governance.
Speaking on the topic: ‘The Politician As A Bridge Builder for Sustainable Democracy,’ Senator Amosun called on Nigerians to ensure that their votes count in the 2011 elections.
“The right of the people to freely elect their representatives must be respected. Ballot decision must be respected with the additional democratic ethos cultivated that self government also involves participation, inclusion and accountability and that no single party or faction will control the entire system of government,” he stated.
Amosun disclosed that there had been pressure on him to return to the PDP by people who believe that money is everything. “I have resisted the pressure because I don’t share in that philosophy. Politicians should have the interest of the people at heart and and do only those things that will promote their welfare,” he disclosed.
The accountant-turned politician also called for the restructuring of the administrative machinery of government to ensure the transfer of responsibility for planning, management, revenue generation and allocation from the centre to the states and possibly the local governments.
